GCF is a unique global platform to respond to climate change by investing in low-emission and climate-resilient development. GCF was established by 194 governments to limit or reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in developing countries, and to help vulnerable societies adapt to the unavoidable impacts of climate change. Given the urgency and seriousness of this challenge, GCF is mandated to make an ambitious contribution to the united global response to climate change.
06 Oct 2021 / GCF has disbursed the first tranche of funds to its project partner Micronesia Conservation Trust to support adaptation action in the Federated States of Micronesia. Approved by the Board in March this year, the project has moved ahead rapidly and funds have now been released to start action on the ground. This is an example of how GCF is increasing its operational speed. With under 200 days passing between initial approval and the transfer of funds this is the fastest project to date within a Small Island Developing State, which are amongst the most vulnerable countries to climate change. Learn more about the project here.
05 Oct 2021 / GCF is one of the contributing partners to the World Meteorological Organization’s State of Climate Services: Water report. The report highlights the growing threats to water security and supply caused by climate change in different regions. It also makes a case for integrated water resources management and sustainable investments as vital components of adaptation strategies. Containing inputs from more than 20 international organizations, development agencies, and scientific institutions, the report outlines recommendations for policymakers to improve the implementation and effectiveness of climate services for water worldwide. Read more about the report launch here.
Climate innovation is critical to avert catastrophic climate change, but investment in new climate solutions is hampered by a range of barriers.
